Tres Cordes String Quartet

Described as “high spirited” and “fun overflowing,” and “with splendid co-ordination and attack,” Tres Cordes brings music to life with freshness, warmth and beauty.

Recent highlights include performances at the International Deia Festival in Mallorca, Spain, performing at the opening of the Chinese Spring Festival and recording the soundtrack for The Art of Recovery for the New Zealand International Film Festival.

Since 2018, Tres Cordes performs in the chamber music series Travel Through Time, collaborating with other NZ musicians in different chamber ensembles and introducing forgotten pieces from the past. UK celebrity singers, Aled Jones and Russell Watson record their CD string soundtracks in NZ, with Tres Cordes and friends (known as the NZ Sinfonietta); these BMG label CDs have been top of the UK classical charts.

The quartet are members of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra:

Cathy Irons and Amandine Guerin (violins), Sharon Baylis (viola) and Tomas Hurnik (cello)

Committed playing ...brought out elegance and high spirits...

...played throughout with masterly energy, coordination and passion.

...a very polished performance...

...finesse of the playing and the great communication that went on between the players...

Tres Cordes again made sure that fun overflowed...
